What we keep about you and your account

Knowing what a site collects about you is also part of security

This is especially true since the Ashley Madison hack which exposed all of the users!


User Information

Here is what we collect about each of our users:

NameThe name your supplied when you registered
EmailThe email address to reset your password or send your notifications

SaltThe Initial Salt of your password
IterationsThe number of rounds of encryption for your password
Hash KeyThe 24 characters random key used to authenticate your bookmarklet
DisabledInitially set to true, is set to false when you confirm your email address
PreferencesThis field stores in a json string your site preferences such as your custome categories
RefererIf you signed up from a friend, we store the ID number of that friend
ServicesThe various services you signed-up for

And here is what we do not collect about each of our users:

  • Your initial IP Address
  • Your subsequant IP Address
  • Your user agent (type of browser)
  • Payment information (such as credit card number or paypal account)
  • Usage information such as number of logins, times of day the user logs in, etc...

Premium User Information

You will receive an invoice

All income tax laws will be followed and our parent company will pay income tax to the Québec and Canadian government as prescribed by law.

As a result, your payments will be marked in the Cablan.net accounting software and if you are from Canada, sales taxes will be added to your orders.

We are not a fly-by-night operation. We respect fiscal laws

Here is what we additionally collect about each of our premium users, in the Cablan.net billing system:

CountryThis is the second most important: Only Canadians pay Sales taxes with us
Phone NumberWe need ask for the phone number, but you can put N/A if you want to
Type of paymentA field telling us if you pay by PayPal or Credit card, but not the details of it

We will never send you any letters by mail or make unwanted phone calls


Link Information

Here is what we collect about each of the links of our users:

DeletedWe use this to now when you delete a link. You can undelete it, but eventually, it will be purged
Added DateThe time you added the link to your account

TitleThe title of the link, extracted when we added it
CategoryThe category of your link (premium members)
UrlThe link you added
Reccuring TypeWhich type of reccurence you selected
Next DateThe next time we will propose you to re-read the article
Reads LeftIf you set a limit to the number of re-reads, this will note it
TypeWe will try to detect if it's a blog article, a video, etc... to display it properly
Raw ContentThe raw HTML of the link your submitted, so that you have an offline copy (premium members)
Processed ContentThe HTML of the link your submitted, processed for offline viewing (premium members)
Permanent URLIf the link you submitted is temporary, This is where we will store the permanent one

And here is what we do not collect about the links of users:

  • The IP which added the link
  • The method used to add the link (Bookmarklet or website)
  • The user agent (type of browser) that added the link
  • The referrer (page your visited prior to that page)
